The song was written in the mid-1970s and was first performed at the “Vašem Šlageru” festival of entertainment melodies in Sarajevo in 1975, where it secured fourth place. This is one of the noblest songs that speaks about an individual’s love for their homeland.
At the time of its creation, the song was dedicated to Yugoslav guest workers who were leaving Yugoslavia for other countries in search of employment. The popular Sarajevo group Ambasadori performed the song, with Ismeta Krvavac as the lead vocalist. The music and lyrics were written by Kemal Monteno, who recorded the song for his compilation album “Moje najdraže pjesme” in 1985.
“Zemljo moja“ was one of Josip Broz Tito’s favorite songs, and as such, it was often played at official receptions organized by Tito.
