Back in Yugoslavia, when there was a program interruption on TV, a terrifying beeping sound would be heard, and unusual colorful squares, rectangles, and lines known as a test card or test pattern would appear on the TV screen.
The most famous test card was created in 1966 in the Philips company laboratory. The content and design of this pattern were devised by engineer Finn Hendil with the help of chief engineer Erik Helmer Nielsen. Hendil, along with his engineering team, also created the equipment that would generate the pattern called the “Philips PM5544”.
