The Zastava 1300, popularly known as the “Tristać,” is a car that citizens of the former Yugoslavia remember for its timeless beauty and grandeur. They were primarily used as taxis and were also utilized by the police due to their maximum speed of around 140 km/h (with a 1500 cm3 engine, they could reach speeds of approximately 155 km/h), making them one of the faster cars in the SFRY. However, they were also known for consuming a lot of fuel.
Production of the Tristać began in 1961 and continued until 1979. They were manufactured by the Zastava automobile factory in Kragujevac. Although they found their place in the market of the former SFRY, production was eventually discontinued to make way for a new national vehicle – the Zastava 102, later named the “Yugo.”
The Tristać achieved its greatest export success in Colombia, where almost 7,000 units were sold between 1967 and 1974. Due to its distinctive lighting, it earned the nickname “the car with a thousand lights.”
