PersonaBeba Lončar – Bella Bambola

Beba Lončar – Bella Bambola

She is the “little girl” from the famous song. In the 1960s, she captivated the male world by riding a Vespa. She is the Yugoslav Brigitte Bardot. She associated and worked with Marcello Mastroianni,
Warren Beatty, Massimo Ranieri…

Desanka Beba Lončar, one of the undoubtedly most beautiful Yugoslav actresses of all time, entered the world of acting unexpectedly and left it just as unexpectedly.

At the age of 17, she appeared in the partisan film “The Ninth Circle” directed by France Štiglic. She also enrolled in Romance studies when the producers of the film “Love and Fashion” discovered her. Anyone
who watched the first sequence of the cult film, where she rides a Vespa in a checkered dress, playing the role of Sonja, thought that a star was born.

After that film, Beba’s life turned around 180 degrees. She went on to roles in the films “The Two,” “Doctor,” and “Lito Vilovito,” and her role as a Viking princess in the first American-British-Yugoslav co-
production “The Long Ships” took her to Rome in 1965.

Rome adored the beauty from Belgrade, calling her “bella bambola” and the fatal blonde. Along with her popularity came good earnings – at the age of 19, she was able to buy a white convertible Mercedes, a fur
coat, and an unbelievably large diamond.

She appeared in many films of various genres, mostly commercial ones, before returning to Yugoslav cinematography in the films “Devil’s Island” and “Buddies.” Her last role was in the Italian film “House
of Lost Souls” in 1982.

She was married to Josip Radeljak for a long time, from whom she divorced in 1994 and with whom she has a son named Leo.

Beba Lončar is now 80 years old, living in Belgrade, and does not participate in public life.
