Espadrilles

Classic women’s espadrilles are the perfect summer shoes, characterized by a canvas upper and a jute sole. They originate from Catalonia, and the name “espadrilles” comes from the French word espadrille and the Spanish-Catalan espardenya, referring to the plant from which the sole was originally made. Throughout the former Yugoslavia, they were known as špagerice and were very popular. Men typically wore black ones, while women wore them in a variety of other colors.

Women’s espadrilles were popularized by the famous actress Lauren Bacall in 1948 in the film “Key Largo.” Original classic espadrilles are not suitable for moisture or rain, but only for dry weather.
