Kinderlada – Taste of Childhood

There probably wasn’t a household in Yugoslavia that didn’t have a cup or container with the image of a smiling cow with a flower on its head.

Legend has it that marketing experts from the “Ferrero” company during the 1970s were looking for a way to introduce “Nutella,” the world’s most famous spread, to the closed Yugoslav market, which emphasized domestic production. That’s why they created a unique chocolate spread and licensed it to the “Podravka” factory in Croatia.

One of the conditions was that the new spread should be made from the same ingredients that “Ferrero” uses in the production of “Nutella,” such as special types of milk and hazelnuts. Thus, Kinderlada was created, and the mere mention of it brings back memories of the sweet and unique taste of this spread that sweetened the childhoods of many generations of Yugoslavs.
