The Mijatović sisters, Mira and Maja, were known as beautiful, energetic, smiling, “fatal,” sociable, and their parties at the villa in Dedinje were considered the best in the city.
Their circle of friends consisted of then-current urban artists and children from prominent families – Milan Mladenović, Bojan Pečar, Dušan Gerzić Gera, Miško Plavi, Slobodan Cicmil, Goran Vejvoda, Bebi Dol, Margita Stefanović, Petar Peca Popović, Borjana Bulajić, the Udovički sisters, Sonja Savić…
And then in 1980, the idea of the music group VIA Talas began to emerge, consisting of Bojan Pečar, Mira Mijatović, and at one point Miško Plavi and Dušan Gerzić.
The band members tried hard to find their own sound that would be different from the rest of the Belgrade music scene. They were popular, released one studio album, and appeared on two compilation albums, even being discovered by Goran Bregović, who invited them to Sarajevo to record a record. The most famous song from the album was the track “Sama” which became a national hit, among other things, because it was part of the music score for the film “Sugar Water” starring Sonja Savić.
Shortly thereafter, in 1983, the band disbanded and each went their separate ways. And then the worst happened. The Mijatović sisters passed away in 1991, within a few months of each other.
There are no official records, but it is presumed to be the result of drug consumption. Many at the time could not even find out about their deaths because their father, the second president of the Presidency of Yugoslavia after Tito and a national hero, Cvijetin Mijatović, made every effort to keep it from being known.
