He played only for the bordeaux team of Sarajevo and for about two months for Fenerbahçe. It is said that after a short episode with the Turkish club, he stated: “I cannot, brother, play for money and listen to how I should play. I thank them; they were fair and didn’t cause me problems, but I told them that I can only play for Sarajevo.”
He loved his Sarajevo, and everyone loved him. He was a favorite of all fans, including those of Željezničar, Partizan, Crvena Zvezda, Velež, Hajduk, and more. People came to Koševo Stadium to admire the wizard of this game. For the first team of Sarajevo, he played 600 matches and scored 400 goals.
He played only one international match, on October 8, 1961, in Belgrade, when South Korea was defeated 5-1.
Hase died of a heart attack in his hometown on Kovači on the night of January 24th to 25th, 1987. His city and fellow citizens, whom he loved immensely, have not forgotten him. This is best evidenced by the fact that today the Koševo Stadium bears his name.
The famous rock band, “Zabranjeno pušenje,” sang the song “Nedjelja kad je otišo Hase” (“Sunday When Hase Left”) on the album “Dok čekaš sabah sa šejtanom”. Many see associations with the death of Josip Broz Tito in this song. Nele Karajlić stated, “Those who think it’s about Asim Ferhatović are right. And those who think it’s about Josip Broz are also right.”
