The Ilinden monument – Makedonium

The Ilinden monument also known as Makedonium, is a monumental building in the town of Kruševo, in Macedonia.

It was officially opened on August 2, 1974, on the 30th anniversary of the Second Session of ASNOM and the 71st. anniversary of the Ilindan Uprising. The authors of the monument are sculptor Jordan Grabuloski, architect Iskra Grabuloska and painter Borko Lazeski (stained glass windows in the monument).

It is dedicated to all fighters and revolutionaries of the Ilindan Uprising in 1903, as well as fighters- partisans of the Macedonian National Liberation Struggle from 1941 to 1944.

The monument covers 12 hectares and has the shape of a round dome with oval windows. The upper windows are made of stained glass. Inside the dome is the grave of Nikola Karev, the president of the Republic of Kruševo.

The view from inside the dome bursts from four windows, each of which faces one side of the world. i.e. the location connected with the events of the Ilindan epic: the “Sliva” monument, “Mechkin stone” and Pelagonia.
