Olivera Katarina – The Diva of Yugoslavia

One of the most beautiful actresses and singers, and undoubtedly one of the most captivating women of former Yugoslavia. She gained great popularity starring in the film Feather Gatherers, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival and was nominated for the Palme d’Or and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.

After that, she pursued an international career. She lived in Paris, Milan, and Rome, and acted in over 30 film and television projects.

Alongside her acting career, she built a successful music career. She recorded 22 singles and ten albums. She performed on all the major stages in Europe. Her performances ignited Cannes, New York, Berlin, and Paris – for 72 consecutive nights, she sold out the legendary Olympia Hall in the French capital, and she was applauded by Annie Girardot, Shirley MacLaine, Akira Kurosawa, Alain Delon…

It is said that the famous Salvador Dalí, after one of her performances, came to her dressing room, embraced her, showed her his palms, which were red from clapping, and said, “What have you done? You’ve set my hands on fire!”

After a great love affair with water polo goalkeeper Milan Gale Muškatirović, she was married to critic Vuk Vučo, had a relationship with Avala Film director Ratko Dražević, and later married Miladin Šakić, a former vice president of Belgrade, with whom she has a son, Mane.

In honor of her late mother, she added the name Katarina to her baptismal name, and today she is best known as Olivera Katarina.
