The Genex Towers

One of the symbols of the capital’s development and the headquarters of the most successful Yugoslav company, it was also a gathering place for the business and political elite of its time. The skyscraper was designed by architect Mihajlo Mitrović in the Brutalist style, and the building was completed in 1980. It consists of two concrete towers connected by a bridge structure on the 26th floor, with a rotating restaurant at the circular top. It stands 135 meters tall and is currently the second-tallest skyscraper in Belgrade, surpassed only by the Ušće Tower, which is 141 meters high. One of the towers was owned by the Yugoslav company Genex.

On the 35th floor of the building, there is a restaurant that offers a stunning view of New Belgrade and the rest of the city. It covers an area of 250 square meters and has seating for 45 guests; it was renovated in 1988. Access to the 35th floor of the Western City Gate of Belgrade was restricted, as it was open only to selected guests. Unfortunately, the restaurant has not been in operation since 1999.

The skyscraper was named the Western City Gate of Belgrade because of its position, welcoming travelers arriving from Belgrade Airport.
