At first this drink was called cognac, but after the French protected the name cognac (Cognac) it name could only be used by brandies produced in distilleries located in one small area France, in the region of Bordeaux – department of Charente, whose capital is Cognac.

Otherwise, there are almost no differences between cognac and vinjak, they are made from grapes, a technological process production is almost the same, the method of maturing or aging is the same, and the differences are actually only in style and from the grape variety, the aromatic potential of the barrel and the coupage.

So, the differences can be explained by nuances which occur from manufacturer to manufacturer, as there are differences between e.g. Hennessy and Martell.

Every cognac ie. vinjak has its own authenticity.

Vinjak was created in the early thirties of the last century by Dragoljub Marković, a winemaker from Aleksandrovac who returned to his hometown after completing his studies in Paris. He produced it by fermenting grapes, and the color and the aroma was obtained by aging the distillate in oak barrels, where the distillate was aged for three years. In the beginning was called cognac, and it got its current name after the Second World War, when it was Marković’s property nationalized.
