Veselin Vujovic, former Yugoslav handball player, played as a left back, and according to the opinions of many experts, no one in world handball has reached his level of greatness.
He was born on January 19, 1961, in Cetinje. He started his career at Lovcen, but his full affirmation came at Metaloplastika in Sabac, at a time when it was one of the strongest clubs in the world. As one of the “Shapec Aliens,” he won seven domestic championships and four national cups, as well as two European Champions Cups (1985 and 1986). After Sabac, he went to Barcelona, where he won the EHF Champions League, and he ended his playing career at Granollers.
With the Yugoslav national team, he won gold at the World Championship in 1986 and gold at the Olympic Games in 1984, as well as bronze at the Olympic Games in 1988.
He was named the Best Athlete of Yugoslavia in 1986 and the Best Handball Player in the World in 1988.
During his coaching career, he has coached Metaloplastika, Lovcen, Partizan, Ciudad Real, Vardar, Al-Sadd Doha, Al-Shabab Dubai, Zagreb, Koper 2013, Zeleznicar Nis, and Borac from Banja Luka.
He has also served as the national team coach for Yugoslavia, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovenia, and Iran.
